REECA Students Excel in National Language Contest

You think writing an essay in your native language is hard? Try it in one you’ve been studying for just a few years.

With the academic year coming to a close, the Davis Center’s REECA students have many achievements to celebrate. One of them, for those studying Russian at Harvard’s Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures, is recognition in the National Post-Secondary Russian Essay Competition sponsored by the American Council of Teachers of Russian. Held in February, the contest brought together 838 students from 49 educational institutions across the United States.

The categories work like this: “A” includes students who started studying Russian without any prior exposure to the language; “B” covers those who’ve had prior exposure to a Slavic language other than Russian; and “C” refers to those who have had some heritage exposure or some schooling in a Russian-speaking environment prior to university-level studies. The numerals reflect the students’ year of study.

Congratulations to our winners!
