About the Lab

The BSL creates opportunities for members of the Davis Center community to connect with scholars across and beyond Harvard. Our goal is to define and pursue new avenues of research into the factors that contribute to and/or mitigate risk, whether political, economic, environmental, military, or migratory, in the Black Sea region. We are interested in studying the evolution of these processes and institutions through the years, decades, and even centuries, but we want to connect the knowledge of the academic world with the problems of the present day.

The BSL is exploratory in nature. It is a collaboration across research initiatives at the Davis Center that aspires to be greater than the sum of its parts. In the context of the Russo-Ukrainian War, nothing could be more important than working to demonstrate the value and relevance of regional studies.
